There is one young man, all of 18 years old, who comes regularly to the Sanctuary Art Center. He has lived most of his young life in a state of extreme struggles due to forces outside of his control. His willingness and dedication to broadening his knowledge and abilities is inspiring.
This work was created while sitting beside this young man for several hours. Today he quietly showed me a collection of his drawings so that we could both see how his abilities have improved. His sharing was a gift that I’ll not soon forget.
As the memories and ideas flow from this young man’s mouth, I am reminded of the joyous and powerful release that comes from allowing my paint brush to merge with paint and flow freely across a surface. Allowing it to create texture and the feeling of movement.
